Protege Trunk Release

My trunk release stopped working. I'm trying to figure out if some cable broke. Inside the trunk lid itself, I don't see anything wrong with the latch mechanism.

Any ideas? Or is this a dealer/garage-fix thing?

Open the trunk -- right by the latch mechanism there's a small white thing that can be switched into 2 positions -- 1 of them disables the interior lever to open the trunk. Sometimes that switch gets accidently flipped when getting stuff out of the trunk. So try that before going to the dealer.
