Not that I condone this or suggest anyone to go out and do it BUT! How fast have you had your cars? I was on the Hwy and was running with a WRX and a Porsche Boxster. Yea I know, I was just playing around. I didn’t want to hurt their feelings so I let them pull on me LOL. Any ways it was an open road and I hit the end of the MPH at like 105. This is only the second time I’ve ever had her this fast but I keep hearing other people talking about how they had theirs to 115-130. I just can’t see it! I even have more mods then some of these guys. I ran with and MP3 and a P5 and to about 50 I was a head and then we stopped. So I know I’m not slower then normal. What gives? Are they just full of shit or what?

I had mine up to 120 once racing a Porshe carrera. She still had some left in her but my balls were shrinking fast so i shut her down.

I did a search, But I was hoping that I would get the guys that would tell the truth. Don't these (like most ) have a limiter? If so I don't see how they hit 120.

I went between 115-120 for about 15 minutes on I-5 about a month after I got it. All stock...

i've been to 132-34mph, but this is when the car was stock(done when the car had 11k miles or so on it) and i could have gone more because it was only at like 5800rpm or closer to 6krpms(happen on the michelin track in south carolina). for some reason it seems as if it struggles to get to 115mph now. if you are topping this car out, you should definitely do it from 0 to whatever mph. i've notice that if your going 60 to 110 that it takes a long time in 4th gear(tops at 118-22mph). also when you downshift into 3rd while going to 60mph it seems slow, but i think that is due to the fact that your at like 5500rpm or more and there is no power after 6000rpm. it gets up faster when one starts from like 20mph to 110mph. this is just my experience with it. also, when the car was stock it didn't shake as much as it does now. like when i was going 132-34 mph it wasn't shaking but a little bit. if i go 90-95mph now it starts to shake as if im going like 150mph and that isn't coo. does anyone know why this happens now because i just have springs and struts on.

sounds like you need an alignment and/or wheel balance. If that doesn't fix it, I would bet that one of your wheels are bent...

got mine up to 135 MPH on a flat paved back-texas rarely used 4-lane road. I could've probably got an extra 2 or 3 MPH, but I was still on stock tires and I could tell they weren't gripping for shit, so I let off. Never had the guts to do it again, though....

Your mods might help you accelerate faster than an mp3 but if i was goin against you i guess id tell you byebye at 105, and shift into 5th cuz ive hit over 140 before (i just like going fast)

its not start (assuming you meant the windows key anyways..)
Print Screen will capture the whole screen to the clipboard buffer. Then go into photoshop (or whatever) and paste the image.
ALT+Printscreen captures only the selected window.

I hit 125 in my SE-R when I was young and stupid. And faster in friends dad's cars.
Never have broke maybe 104 in my Protege. Not that it wasn't still accelerating well. What's the point? I just don't want to go to jail. I still hit 90-95 everyday as long as I-75 is straight and there's no cars around me, especially on barren offramps in the morning. :D
BTW, I am happy with the size of my penis.

yeah i have one wheel that is bent, but it doesn't have any effects on the car unless im going like 90mph

wow, the protege is ABLE to get to speeds of 135+? i would have bet it topped out at 120 or 125 busting. Even the Toyota Celica GT-S tops out at 126.
Most i've ever dont in my Protege is 105-08, it starts shaking and dosnt grip real well, even with the Dunlops on it so i backed off

4 to... yeah... slow as hell. I reached around 90 and getting all the way to 100 used about almost the rest of the road.
I-5 where I have had more time I went 115, 120 tops. I don't know about these 133 guys but 115 is good enough for me...
Why is the acceleration so slow from 90 mph and up?

it has a long 5th gear duration, which translates to a very passive gearing, so in lamen turns.......it lacks the balls to do it

Ive read one of the only major gripes with the Protege was the 4spd automatic tranny. You probably get alot slower 0-60 and 1/4 mile times than a stock 5spd, maybe as bad as into 1 to 1.5 seconds *ive heard its that slow*.
This is my first stick shifter car, and im glad to have it.

the automatic gearing is long as hell, such as the top of second is 70mph. i bet if someone boosted the hell out of an auto, that it could be faster than a boosted 5spd from 0 to 70mph. if power could start at like 3400rpm and go to redline, but it would take alot of research and development to do that though. also, alot of money too.

my car is pretty good on the highway from like 80 to 105/110 in 5th gear...seems like it can get there in a reasonable amoutn of time to me

2 weeks till i had it smooth and virtually perfect
If you can take off, from a stand still on a hill, and not roll back, i think you've got it down pact.

i learned how to drive a formula ford race car before i learned how to drive a 5spd in a daily car. it's completely different in the fact that the race car clutch is like an inch or less of a push and a stock car is like 8 inches of pushing the pedal down, but i would probably say a good 4 hours. i had a supercharged 88 m3 before this car, and i stalled it like 5 or 6 times. my dad just gave me the keys to it and said to keep up with him on the trip home. my problem was letting off too fast and spinning the wheels. so i was basically launching the car. it's not that hard. once u get the car going, the hard part is done.

Yes mister know it all I did search on this forum, I typed TOP SPEED! It pulled up all kinds of shit that had no relations to what I wanted. So I posted the question. Isn't that the whole Idea behind a forum. If you can't find it ask it! (fu)

Oh and I think on problem might be that the short header does more for the low end power. So when in 5th and at 5+ RPM I'm lacking.

i saw my mp3 for sale at a local dealer........3 days later asked a friend to teach me how to drive her truck (was a stick).......bought mp3 the next day!When you really want something you get it!

i thought headers helped with top end and you low a little low end, at least the OBX if i remember correctly.
i haven't gone 115 since the car was fairly new, 17K right now, but it does seem to not reach high speeds easily
but if i rev the lower gears a little, it picks up nicely each gear after, but then it's hard to drive smoothly in the city afterwards.
i would keep it in 4th if i was planning to go over 100, one time i was going to school from the mall i downshifted at 90 to 4th for a little extra pickup.
i am happy with how you can speed up at highway speeds to pass someone in 5th gear, my father tells me his '04 civic has to downshift, automatic, to pass a person

The long tube headers help more top end torp, I have the wagner shorty and the fact cats. I get a lot of lowend torq. I don't think the speedos are so accurate. I've had my 97 Z28 to 150 (147 t-tops off) a few times and I just cant see these cars doing 130. Not with out a turbo.

lol, your suppose to be watching the road. i used cruise control to go 110mph one day. like i started from 100mph by pressing resume button or whatever it's called. it seemed like forever.

Stop telling people you've hit over 140, you haven't. You have neither the gear nor the power to allow it. If you have, I'd love to see a picture, otherwise, BS. Moreover, the accuracy over the speedo past 120 is extremely questionable.

You forgot to use the m4d tYt3 equation, which states that every number in which the actual figure is proportionate to it's worth, such as top speeds, must be added upon by at least 30%-40% in order to be m4d tYt3, y0.
"I've gone 100" + m4d tYt3 formula = "I've gone 140, y0!!!!!"
The same applies to number where the value is opposed to the worth, such as quarter mile times, except this time you can subtract up to 50% of the orginal number:
"On a good day I've done mid-fifteens." + m4d tYt3 formula = "It'll do nines! Ya best respekt me!!!!"
Thus ends another lesson.

I back you on this one. My Z28 has (well I don't know the term for it but you'll know what I mean) better aerodinamics then the Protege and with chip, heads, headers and exhuast 147 was it. There is no way a 3000+ pound car with only 130hp could do 130.
I didn't ask this question to start anything. I just wanted to know if I was the only one that has had this (i want to call it) wind stopedge? My MR2 would hit the limit at 115 or so and had room to go so I figured maybe it was the body type that is keeping me from hitting the limit. And like I said, I've only maxed it 2 or 3 times in 2 yrs. Just to see what the mods really do for it.

As far as we know it... the governer will allow 135 MPH.... Some governers work and some just arent up to the job.... I buried my needle going 140+... i think it was because i was going downhill...... scariest feeling in the world... i slowed my ass down cuz i didnt want to hear that gosh awful sound (BOOM!!!) ive seen pics of blown bottom ends of the FS motor due to excess speeds... It is possible to go faster than the governer.....

I hit 115 when the car was totally stock. I probably could have gotten 10+ more mph but it was very slowly accelerating at that point.
The car impressed me because it was very stable at that speed and it felt like the engine was the only thing holding it back.

YOU-3200lbs 130hp will not equal 140 mph. It's a box! You dodn't have the power or the gears to carry the weight of the car. Then through in the wind ramming in to the wall that is supposed to be the front of the car.
Not just that, but the Z28 was made for that speed. The handling was good but scarry quick. These cars are not ment to hit 100+. If you really were doing 140 I dought you would have a car left!

well i highly doubt it did 140, the speedo possibly went nuts, but its very possible for the protege to do 115-120, that really isnt out of the standard, ive done 115 in my moms Buick Century 3.1L Pushrod V6, and i did about 120 in an old beater Celica i used to have, so 120 in a protege.......yeah i can see it.

I'm not a stock 130 horsepower car either.
If 130 at the motor = 95 at the wheel then my 118 at the wheel should = 155 - 160 at the motor.

i think 130 is possible...ive went around 115. ina 1.6L bone stock, besides just having hte fuel system cleaned. OEM wheels so no speedo mis read.
just last night around 2a.m. after graduation, i was pushing to a hotel and there was something holding it back. around 100MPH@4k RPM, it barely tries to continue. i cudnt even hear the intake drone anymore. and there was like no difference in letting off the gas, and smashing back on it. as far as how the car felt...how bout i had to grab my camera, battery fell out, use one knee to grip the wheel in order to put the batt. back in all at 98MPH. doesnt feel to fast if ur in alignment, wheel balance, good struts, and a bit low. When it was stock, it did feel that the front end was weightless.
(idhitit) <---me and my car that night(basicly this week, im over my mileage)
does anyone know how to remove the governer?

No biggie. Besides, I figured out that question along time ago. After I put the lip kit on and a few other things I got it up to 130+. I took about a mile or so, i ended up running out of room and shut it down. In stock form the car just can't divert the air around it and under it. With out the lip kit I never go over 115.

so a lip kit gave you the ability of 15 extra MPH??? What kind was it like the ones nrajemeka? sells? Ive also been looking at those solid mesh looking plugs in the bottom bumper where the fogs go.
