Hey guys! I just traded out of my 2002 Sunfire GT for a 05 Mazda3 5 door and i love it!. I had been a Jbody (Cavalier and sunfires) Enthusiast since late 97 early 98 when Jbody .org came online, I went and test drove the 3 yesterday and that was all it took, i stripped off the mods to the J and traded it and left with a white hatch. SO since i have been a domestic supporter for so long i have no clue where to start with a new car.. Any sugestions?

So, do you think handling, fit and finish, noise, vibration and harshness, quality, etc. might be a little better with the Mazda3 than with the Sunfire?

The fit, finish and complete car is everything a J wishes it could be... which is why GM has discontinued them and replaced them with the "tuner minded" Cobalt SS *insert sarcasm here* So for $23,000 you can be even more upside down and less appriciated than having a J... I posted pics of my goodbye on the JBO and already i have members wanting to jump ship with me.. I got it from team Mazda on Thornton road and I could not be happier with the whole experience. I called asking about the cars and explained i like the 3's but wanted a stick and the sales person said he had exactly what i would want and he did... a 5 door 3 Loaded with a stick for the right price, they even got me out of my upside down (from carl black pontiac) $18,000 2002 Sunfire GT that was worth 9000.00 the day i drove it off the lot (we all learn from mistakes). So my payment is no different, my insurance went down and life is good.. I definetly recommend Team Mazda to anyone looking into getting one of these!
My friends have already started calling it the Penguin3. (it is artic white and will have black rims and badges) (2thumbs) Zoom Zoom Zoom~

My son bought a new Cavalier in June 2002, an automatic base coupe, for $9777 after rebates and discounts. It has been mechanically reliable except for an alternator, which was replaced under warranty. It is serving as a college "beater".
The Mazda3 is in an entirely different league than the Sunfire and Cavalier.
The J-Bodied twins are crude, rough, noisy, nothing fits, and have no resale value and little crash protection.
The 3 is without a doubt the best built car in its class, and surpasses practically everything GM builds in every aspect.
This is just part of the reason GM lost over $1 Billion last quarter.
If all Mazda products were constructed with the same quality as the 3, Mazda could be knocking on Toyota`s door.
