Anyone ever tried to convert their manual locks and windows to power ones? I would get someone to do it for me, cause I am not very mechanically inclined. But I was just curious as to the parts that would be required to do such a thing? Could you get them from a junk yard Protege? Would it be expensive?

I Did it 2 Weeks ago on a 01 LX - Took me about the whole day to install a central locking kit. from ebay like this one
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=60202&item=5773010159&rd=1
I Just bought one without keyless entry because my remote starter had a keyless option that i used instead
- I should have done a How-To but this was my first ever attempt.
It was fairly staight forward - the hardest part was fishing the wires into the doors - What i did from that was follow the how-to an adding Speaker wires.
I can Take some picks if you want on how i Mounted the Accuators to the door frame it you PM me.
Also the only thing i did not add was a switch on the inside of the driver door.
Just make sure you get a Master Accuator that will open/close all other doors
when you lock or unlock it.
All and All - id day from taking off all door panels and moldings - it took me about 6hours to install - but i took lots of breaks

Very old topic. Just wanted to bump this and see how difficult it would be to do this/and how expensive?

It's tougher than one might think....There is absolutely NO wiring in the car stock for any of this...I bought motors/regs,switches, and door harnesses, only to find out that the harness behind the dash that goes the the door jambs and actually SUPPLIES power isnt in the car...It's a total bitch to get out form what I hear also
So right now I have a pile of useless parts until I can figure out how to supply power through my switches

Damn that sucks! Oh why, oh why didn't I get a Protege that had power windows/locks?

Removing the dash harness is a nightmare. You need to remove the entire dash, heater core (drain the coolant), A/C condensor (drain R-134a) to get behind where the wires are held in place on the firewall.
I have to do this sometime in the near future to complete my 2.0 swap and I'm not looking forward to it. :(
