View Full Version : In need of some tires. Any suggestions?

My tires have about 22,000 miles on them and they're bald. :( I need to get some new tires so I don't die in the rain, nevermind the snow! I'm looking for some high performance all around tires (like our stock ones). I want better performance for the strip and street. Any suggestions? Should I stick with the stock rubber, or go another route?

Toyo's yo. Great tire but probably a bit more than you want to spend. You can also try the Pirelli P-Zero Nero's. I have Nitto 450's and they're fine for now. But I will be upgrading the rubber if I ever buy wheels. I was thinking about the Nero's or Toyo T1-s. Good luck and how much were you looking to spend?

Yokohama Parada Spec 2's are a decent choice as well. in either a 205/40 or even the 215/40.

Hands down best stick for the buck are the new yoko AVS ES100's

The treadwear is 280, so they're not the worlds longest lasting (prolly about the same as teh rest listed) but I've heard nothing but praises from them, or the AVS Intermediates that they are replaceing (a step up)

I run 205/45-16's on my 7 and love 'em.

Thanks guys! I don't know how much it would be to replace the stock tires let alone the ones you suggested. How much would it be?

the stock dunlops are expensive....at least I think so....about $150 give or take a little EACH....

to get a good idea of the price on any tire try shopping around on

www.tirerack.com

that will give you a ballpark figure of what the tires are going for.

discountiredirect.com has
ES100's for $91
Parada spec-2 for $104

tirerack.com is a few bucks less than that..

What model are the stock tires (mine were replaced before I got the car)

on the P-5 they were Dunlop SP5000M's....on the MP3's they were the Dunlop Sp9000's.

wow....havn't posted in like a 8 months but i have to say that i have parada spec 2's and in dry weather they are about the same as the stock dunlops but in the rain they are amazing...just check out the tread pattern. The new Lotus uses similar tires if that means anything to you

Are the Spec 2's as loud as everyone is telling me. From what I've heard there's a bit of a light humming noise that you can hear with the windows down it's a loud hum.

That's funny. It just so happens that I got the Parada Spec 2s. I have about 600 miles on them and I have to say they're pretty damn good. Great dry and wet traction.

APEXistud- In my opinion they aren't more or less loud than the Dunlops.

I'm glad I went with them, and so is my wallet.;)

would a 215/45-17 tire work great as a replacement for the dunlop on a mp3 wheel?

Yeah. That is the size on the Mazdaspeed, and the wheels are exactly the same size as the MP3.

I have a set of SP9000's sitting around off-rims with just about 2000 Kms on them but that would involve shipping them to New Jersey for you.

If you want all-season, the Continental ContiExtremeContact is nice, as is the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. But those are again expensive.

As I just ordered a set last night from TireRack. I opted for 205/50/16's... they'll be mounted on 16x7" GunMetal Rota Slipstreams. :D

Hope this combo works well. I'm really looking forward to getting this package all together (three different vendors.. wheels/tires/lugs.)

I'm hoping my calculations are right. Upsizing to a 205 with a 7" wide wheel should give me a very close match to my OE setup (yes, I've used all the sizing tools available i.e. Miata site, etc.) They're a bit larger than stock when mounted on a 6.5" wheel, so this should work well.

Results to come when the weather breaks! :)

for future reference for everyone, if you get prices from tire rack you can go to the nearest sears and price match with them. They will match the price and then take an additional 10% off that. FYI

I still feel $78/tire for the Yoko's from TireRack is a fair price. But nice find none the less....
