I have brought it to the dealer and they said the fuel pump is gone and not to worrie about it they will order a new one and install it but a week has passed and my check engine light is now commin on. screw that...it costs $$ the stealership won't charge you b/c it is under warrenty, though from the sound of your probs your certian stealership is a bunch of asshats!!! so take it to another one and explain you problems. i would deffinatly not pay any money for the shiat you are dealing with, and make sure you document it all b/c this is some BS!!!!!!

still finding out what the actual problem is would probably be helpful.

yeah but like i said i would make the dealer pay for it... they usually charge anywhere from 40-70$$ us to hook your car up to a machine... its just the principle really i know if it where me i would be red in the face yellin and hollerin at some asshat service writer (aka a pita) about wtf is wrong with them and my car and would have written at least one letter to mazda by now!!

Autozone doesn't charge you to pull codes.

But by the same token, I don't know if they have a CAN-compatible scanner.

I experienced a problem with my check engine light coming on twice. The first time it was the evac. system and the second time was my serpentine belt. Hopefully its not your serpentine belt because it's only a matter of time before it breaks and your
fuel pump/power steering stop and overheating occurs. Mine didn't overheat because it broke as I pulled into my driveway. They had to tow it to the dealership and it it only took them a day to fix. The evac system took about a week for them to fix because of something they had to order. Hopefully everything goes ok for you.

They're probably experiencing this pretty often now and know what's causing your CEL. Driving with it lit doesn't necessarily mean you're doing damage to your car. I drove with mine on for 2 days until I could get it in, and they replaced my purge valve and all is well. If you get a CEL because you're out of coolant, or out of oil, or the car is running extremely rich or lean, it's more serious and it shouldn't be driven..but the fuel pump isn't going to do anything but make the car a bitch to start (and drive).

it could be something as simple as an o2 sensor. oh and paying the dealer for diagnostics sucks. ford once charged me $100 for an hour of diagnostics when i already knew what the problem was....
