Super fine (00) steel wool will remove water spots from glass - but don't use it on paint. I've had to do this to almost every new car I bought because of water spots baking onto the windows while it sat on the dealer lot. I've found that Rain-X prevents further spotting.

Personally, Mr Clean left my paint feeling dry and 'stripped', and the areas that still needed to be towel-dried feld like the towel was dragging across rough paint.
Being a perfectionist, even if there are no 'water spots', dirt collects in the remaining drips and puddles on the car and when the water evaporates, it's not pretty. I prefer to have a nice hard coat of wax on the car to bead the water..then after washing, I run the water hose over the car without a sprayer and all the water sheets off the car...there's a minimum of towel drying needed, and there's no water to collect dirt after a good towel drying. I've used the rest of my bottle of Mr Clean car soap to clean my ceramic tile floors.

Has anybody tried CLR? On glass only, of course. Seems like that should do the trick.
