The 1.5 is a severly under estimated engine. In making a cheap car mazda took off the shelf parts from other cars to make the second gen protege's. People call it a mutt but most don't realize that the 1.5 has most of it's bottom end out of the older turbo blocks. The bearings can take a good beating from higher than stock hp. The pistons can't take much more than 8-10 pounds of boost but their is aftermarket from wiseco. A 1.5 makes a good platform for turbocharging but no one does it because they think it wouldn't make much power. An intercooled 1.5 running 12 pounds of boost can produce 200hp, better than the 1.8t stock.

What would you suggest for a turbo for a 98 1.5.
