Questions bout miata/ mx -5

I am also looking to buy a mx 5. An older model roughly around 3 grand. Any suggestions on a year to look for or anything like that. I thought it be a great project car. Also how hard is it to find a hard top, or can the rag top be replaced. Also what is the difference between a miata and a mx-5? Any help would be much apreciated. thx

miata is what they sold it here as in the US. mx5 was the designation they used outside the US. badges here are labelled "mx5 miata"
