A few days ago I drove my car on a highway an accidently was able to push out my gear from 5th gear to neutral without a clutch. Then I try all other gears and I have been able to go to neutral without a clutch on all of them. I just wonder if I might have a problem with my manual transmission? If so I still have a warranty.

It's not designed to happen, but it can't really be avoided just because of the way our transmissions work. It's no big deal at all.

you can put it into gear w/o the clutch too, just gotta get the rpms right.

When my transmission on my RX-7 was on the way out, I was able to shift without the cluth at certain RPMS, hmmm I wonder why the tranny was going out??haha

Yeah its normal

If you're REALLY good, you can downshift without the clutch, too. Ever hear of "heel and toe" shifting? your heel's on the brake and you blip the throttle with your toe to get the revs up and it goes right into gear. Well, theoretically anyway. it's easier than learning to juggle, though...

But juggling doesnt cost as much if you totally screw it up^

rpm range is 3200-3400 ..... keep the engine in that area and she pops right in without a clutch.

You really shouldn't shift without the clutch though. Prolonged shifting without the clutch causes damage to the synchros. Clutches are made to wear out while synchros are not.

Thanks guys! It's good to know all of this info about our transmissions.

My dad worked for Peterbilt for decades as a engineer. There were guys who could shift all gears up and down with no clutch. It is all a matter of timing. I think the big rig transmissions can take a lot more than our little 5 speeds can though...

Those transmissions do not have synchros which is why they need to get the timing right, and they also have to double clutch to get things in motion so the gear will shift. You are sure right about about them being able to take a lot more, those big diesels putting 1000+ lb/ft of torque would tear apart our little slushboxes in a second.

Imagine a Cummins engine swap in a P5. MASSIVE torque! lol. man, I need sleep.

yes like everyone says ...theres nothin wrong with ur clutch......im a tractor trailor driver for the canadian military and the only time i use the clutch is when i put it into gear at a red light and wait for the gol........and shit ya sometimes i do double clutch....but only when i have a student in with me, so they can learn how to also.

I hate how my tranny doesn't come out of gear easily. I could clutchless shift my old audi quattro but I daren't try it with the protege and its weak tranny.

thats not entirely true. you still press the clutch in with your left foot. the reason fro blipping the throtle is so that when you are downshifting and coming out of a turn and release the clutch, so that the rpms aren't down too far and you dont make the car jerk. you only need to blip it to like around 2k rpms.

also, your clutch is fine
