Well, I had some money lying around, and wanted to put it into my car. I wanted to do something to the exhaust, but didnt have enought to by a down pipe. So I went to the local exhaust shop, and just had a pipe welded in place of the cat. The rest of my car is stock. I can download the graph later, but here is what I got.
Stock: 140.8hp 141.2tq
Cat Removed: 157.0hp 148.7tq
I was impressed for only $80 worth of work.
Just thought i'd share.

would make sense since turbos dont like back pressure.

^^ have fun with emissions on a catless setup.
Although i'm one to talk.. i'm just going straight to catless when i install my turbo.. many points for the cheap gain!

Was the straight pipe any bigger than the stock pipe?

just seems odd that I dynoed at 152whp and 157t stock. Ever read some of the articles on how dyno shops can faud you out of your money by giving false dyno readings? not saying that this happen but always some good info to have.

all dyno's read different. one may show stock at 140 and another at 150, but if you do the same mods it should give you relative gains. so if you do the same mods and one gets 156.8 the other "should be" 168. also, air temps make a big diff on turbos also.

Did you remove both cats or one?

I did remove both. Yea, I agree, all dynos seem different, I used what was called a Dynapack, it was these two boxes that bolted right on to my axles. The guy said he has used dynos for 15 years, and he also said some are different. Like, he said Dynojet uses a calculation to come up with your horsepower, than adds 20 more. I dont know, they all have there different ways to calculate there info. But yea, it was done on the same day. It does feel a little better I guess, I dont know if I can feel a huge difference. It does run smoother, and power band seems smoother. The cool thing though, my buddy ran me last night in fourth gear in his MSP, and he had is EBC set at 9.7psi, and he couldnt pull on me. (my boost is stock right now)

If your buddy is stock he won't really notice a huge difference unless he frees up his exhaust.

Driving around with no cats is illegal. Doesn't anyone care about the air we all breath and need to survive? Let me guess, everyone else pollutes so it is OK if I do it also.

Are you serious?

Yes, its the same size pipe. And I do care about my enviroment, but I have no emissions in my state, whatever, im not going to argue it. Anyways, I like having no cat. It sounds nice too!

Exactly. I won't make a damn bit of a difference when 2 billion other people continue doing it. That's also why I just dump my oil down the sink.
(shady)
J/k so don't continue this threadjack please

if all 2000 msps had no cats it would not be at all bad compared to the other polution problems the world is faced with.

Funny Story: My friend, in his 73 Z28 would back up to a nice patch of grass, rev his motor to redline, drive away from the spot, and ta-DA! instant dead grass! His car was really rich so it left black spots on the ground whenever he reved it up.
On topic question: When you removed your cats did make your exhaust note raspy when under de-acceleration?

No, actually, it sounds very nice. Pull your car in a garage, rev it to like 1500 rpms, and thats what it sounds like all the time. Like stock, just a little louder. Its nice and deep, and warm sounding. I like it.
p.s. It made my CEL come on today. Oh well, the shop also has MIL eliminators. I dont know though, it doesnt run or drive any different.

i just put on a catless apex 3" dp this weekend with everything else stock, and the only thing i have noticed is a little deeper sound. but it's really nothing to get excited about. i can post vid cllips in the "http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43030" forum if you want. give me a day to do it though.
