Should GTR be Nissan or Infiniti? (http://www.autoweek.com/news.cms?newsId=101569)

The GTR is known globally as a Nissan, but Infiniti dealers here think they should get the coupe because Nissan dealers have the 350Z sports car. "It's hard to have a car as well known as the GTR sold as a Nissan in Japan and an Infiniti in the U.S.," says Patrick Pelata, executive vice president of business planning for Nissan Motor Co. </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

Infiniti Dealers are bitching that THEY deserve it because Nissan has the 350z? Hello...Infiniti has the G35...

i say infiniti should get it because then the car will have all the nice interior upgrades raising the price and making it so i dont see 30 of them a day.

wait, lemme get this straight.... they have nothing better to argue over than "should it be infinity or nissan??" Who the hell cares. It'll be the biggest step in the Import Sports Market since the WRX hit shores and the return of the rotary. A "GT-R" in the states is all that matters...who gives a shit what emblem is on the hood? it's the same damn car.

Except they are bringing over a Skyline that is no where near the pimpage as the Other Gens...

Depends on what the styling looks like, to be honest. If it's more sleek, make it an Infiniti. If it's more angular (like the classic Skyline) make it a Nissan.

it's gota be a nissan...i mean "nissan skyline gt-r" flows so much better than "infiniti skyline gt-r." the latter just sounds clumsy. unless it's just called gt-r, in which case it doesn't make much difference in terms of name flow (it still does tho). but who cares, if it's an infiniti most will probably rebadge it with a nissan/nismo emblem.

well technically the Skyline is out here already as the G35. It would make sense to just offer the GT-R package on the exsisting "skyline" and be done with it....think about...

The G35 already has the V6 engine....already has the AWD system (the nissan does not), already has the "high content" features you'd expect from a $45K car.

personally if the styling is hideous on the GT-R I'd just rather buy a 350Z and add a stillen supercharger to it. It would cost about $15K less.

the bulged hood that you have to install to accomodate the stillen supercharger is awful, it looks out of place o a 350z. i'd rather get the procharger supercharger or the greddy twin turbo setup (although that is some serious $$)

Factory Warranty!

Anyone have performance numbers for this? I can afford to toss 2k a month at my car payment which means I could pay down the Z enough for trade in.

Of course the logical thing would be to pay off the Z (and the remaining 5k I owe on the Protege), and go for a house. But it wasn't logic that purchased the 350Z for me.

It was credit - wonderfully evil credit!

power estimates are supposed to be in the 3.0-3.2L V6 twin turbo 450bhp range. Right even with the new "Shelby" Mustang, Z06 Vette, etc

As much as I'd like it to remain a Nissan, marketing it in NA will probably force it into the Infiniti brand due to price. I don't think anyone, except those in the know, will be attaracted to $70K Nissan. But maybe I am wrong, I hope people will prove me wrong :)

dont forget about the alternate V8 powerplant. if they're still going with that here. I could care less what it comes here as, its still gonna be a NISSAN. plus I won't be able to afford one so I could care less. Nissan could just say ok no more, "look no more Infinity seeing sa N. America is the only place it exists, so stop bitching....bitches". so there.

Infinity is going to start being introduced in other markets besides the US.

The engine is suppose to be the VQ35de 3.5L thats in every Nissan and Infiniti models with a V6. I think the 4.5L V8 be awesome as well.

^^^^Exactly. Although, I agree with Super Matty P also.

who gives a shit. maybe they should just market it as a skyline and have it available through order from either a nissan or infiniti dealership.

btw, i dont think a v8 should EVER go into a skyline. i do, however, like the idea of a VQ35DETT ;)

well since the skyline is already under infiniti as a g35, its only logical thats where they should continue it.

Infinity only because price alone... but if they can keep it under 35k-30k then maybe Nissan. Nissan is where it belongs, but price is name of the game.

why shouldn't a V8 go into a skyline? There was a time when a GT-R came with a four cylinder if i remember correctly. It's just a natural progression. The faster the competition becomes the faster the GT-R must become.

^^exactly...everywhere you go people always forget that a stock R34 is a turd, hell the R32-33 pretty much are too...except for the older ones, the resale value was a disaster...the rich guys that bought them thought they sucked, and sold them...but no one wanted them...so it sucked even more...but then people started to figure out that the internals, on the three generations we all know about, could hold over 600whp...then little japanese punks started wining about them...then they started getting them, and modding them...then we started to hear about them a little...then Gran Turismo was released in the United States...everyone knows the rest...

but pitting one against even an MR would leave the skyline shitless...who cares what engine it has...who cares what brand its under...it will be 50 grand or so, just like the R34 is translated...all I know is that since the Japanese ridance of the gentlemen's agreement, this thing will have nearly 450hp...everywhere it is released...and it will be perfectly fine..

I bet a lot of people would feel differently about skylines if they saw them everyday...hell the one guy admitted that in Hong Kong they look at them like we look at Mustangs, or at least how "most" of us look at mustangs...I would take an Evo with the extra 20 grand into it any day of the week...at least for the yet to be released one...

there's lot's people dont know about the skyline. most think there are only 3 generations, while in fact they date to about the 60's. ugly things they were back then. but still, I wouldn't mind a V8, it's not like you HAVE to get one, you can get a 6 still
