Check engine lamp

Hi !
I bought Protege '97 ES and can not find why "check engine" signal is on.

Maybye someone has the same problem? and could help.

We have a '99(LX/1.6L/35K)that had a similar problem. The light would come on and then go away for a while, but at no time did the car run bad. Dealer found no problem and reset it. Came back on a week or so later. Car ran fine so I ignored it. I took it to Tire Kingdom and had Oil and all kinds of other stuff done. They found that I had a fouled plug, replaced them and the light has been gone ever since.

J've also reset computer byt after 2-3 days "check eng." lamp comes back :-(
The problem is that I have an US version of the car (not european) and here in Mazda service they dont have proper connector to the car computer.


Could you explain what exactly is plug you 've replaced:

Sorry, that would be one of the spark plugs.
