46 lbs??? Are you sure about that? The stock setup is only 27 lbs. I don't see how it could jump that much. (scratch)

27lbs? Are you sure about that? The stock 17"s were 22lbs and the stock 17" Goodyear RSA were 22lbs which totals 44lbs.

The RX8 rims are 22lbs and the Kumho ASX are 24lbs.

Are Canadian pounds different or something? There's no way my tires weigh that much. I've never put them on a scale but they sure don't seem that heavy. (dunno)

Hahaha...I'm pretty sure the Canadian and American stock 17" rims and tires are the exact same. The stock 17" combo is 44lbs to 45lbs as many have confirmed on other forums. So 46lbs is well within range.

If your total combo was 27lbs...thats amazing...your car would be really FAST.

Damn... now I'm going to have to go home and weigh my wheels.

hey Raptor, could you weigh your stock rims and take a picture like you did with the RX-8 rims?

also... since technically you're not increasing your rotating mass by much.. the suspension should feel the same except for a bit more harshness transmitted through the shorter sidewalls, correct?

I can't weigh my stock rims and tires anymore because I don't have them anymore. But the number of 45lbs total for the stock 17" rim with rubber is pretty much an agreed number with people from M3F.

I'm going to be honest with you guys and tell you that so far the ride quality feels the same. My girl asked me if the new wheels were supposed to feel different, cuz she doesn't feel a difference at all. (2thumbs)

I still have to check what psi they are right now as I just put them on from the shop and didn't check out the psi.

The weight issue struck my interest. If anyone honestly weighs their wheels (which someone should) then please post. I have stock 16's and may weigh them just out of curiosity now if I get some time after the semester.

The very first post shows a picture of the wheels on, with a link to even more.

Or did you mean rbmazda3's? I can't imagine they would look much different.

Gambino

Well, yeah, I meant rbmazdas, sorry. I know it will look virtually the same, but I bet the sportline drop rb has will give it a slighlty different, more agressive look maybe.

just out of curiosity, will the rx-8 rims fit on a protege mp3, or is the mazda 3 set up differently to fit with them

goldwing2000
04-28-2005, 03:32 PM
Do any 18" rims fit on the MP3? If they do, then you should be fine as long as the bolt pattern is the same (5 on 114.3).

...how much for the RX-8 rims and where did you get them?

BTW, looks really nice. I like the original 5 spoke (ducking the flames (flame2) ) look but think the rim is not wide enough and the car could tolerate an 18" rim.

Interesting story on how I came about mine...

I was surfing the RX8 pages on cardomian and posting messages to all the RX8 owners that had put aftermarket wheels on their cars. Someone finally replied to my post and turned out he lived in Oregon. Not only that...but he was a salesman at the dealership that I purchased my car from. He was going to sell them to a Mazda 6 owner that he worked with but the guy was having problems coming up with the dough. I offered him 500 bones and he took it!

I used my neighbor's scale that he uses for UPS and the oem 17 weighed 19.8 lbs. Not too bad.

Hi,

did you have to roll your fenders on your Mazda3?
I have a 2005 'S' 5 door in Titanium and thought of swapping out the rims to the RX8 rims but was unsure if they'd fit.
do you know the offset of the RX8 rim?
do the rub at all on the inner wall of the fender well?
Looks like you have a spring kit... which one?
did you need a camber kit too?
I was thinking of getting Eibach Pro Springs... 1.4" in front and 1.2" in rear.
would I run into any problems lowering the car only that small amount?
I appreciate any help you can give.

thanks so much,
Steve

Welcome to the board.
I appears that the RX8 rims are very close, if not the same, offset. You wouldn't need any other mods. Lowering that car with the stock tires/rims you wouldn't have a problem. Maybe with the larger 18s, but i could be wrong.

Hi.

curious...
what does the 10AWG ground wire do for the ETB?
Should I do it to my Mazda3?

How do you like the Eibach Pro kit?
I was considering getting those.

wow, I gotta say I love my '3'!
I would have never thought of owning another mazda after I got rid of my MX-6 LS.
I liked that car and nothing has come close to it from Mazda, in my opinion.
I fall in love with the '3' more every day.
It is addicting to own that car.
I already upgraded the headlight bulbs, tinted around the back, swapped out
air filter for K&N replacement and am getting my new MagnaFlow cat-Back exhaust this week. (if its in yet)
I am planning on Eibach Pro kit in the next week or two and some wheels. (that's why I asked about the RX8 18s)
(headbang)
Think I'll need to roll the fenders?

thanks again,
Steve

I really like them being 18's and they look really sweet, but i just can't past the fact they look too similar to the stock wheels. I need more of a change i guess.

although surfing ebay over the weekend, i saw a set of black chrome ones going for some crazy $2500...but they looked VERY nice.

1. No I didn't have to roll my fenders
2. OEM RX8 wheels have a +50mm offset. Stock Mazda 3 offset is +52mm.
3. The do not rub at all on my car
4. I have the Eibach Sportline Kit
5. Yes I need a camber kit. I am way over spec!

actually there was black chrome before but its now out of market is too expensive and nobody makes it anymore, or he is maybe talking about the black rims since they are so shinny thats why he is calling him chrome.
