Changing oil filter on 98 protege 1.5

I recently got a 98 Protege with the 1.5L engine. I noticed the oil filter is on the back of the motor I can get to it but how can i take it off with out oil geting all over the engine

drain all oil first, then put the catch pan up close to it, then slowly take it off...some might drip, but after you drain the oil there wont be to much
