Getting a Speed

I got a yellow MP3, but I found a guy selling his spicy orange Speed close to where I live. It is in excellent condition w/ 16,000 miles on it and I'm getting it for $13,900. I figured it would be good that it's already turbo-charged and I wouldn't have to go through the hastle of putting a kit on the MP3 when it has about 40,000 miles more than the speed. My parents are going to keep the MP3 for a while because it gets good gas mileage...so I'm pretty excited to be getting the Speed & I just have to wait to get the title from Mazda USA....my bank sent the $ to them on Monday and I thought they would have gotten it already, so I'm hoping it doesn't take too much longer so I can go get it from the guy...

Do some research on the MSP turbo setup.The stock setup is less than stellar.If you where to buy a turbo kit with engine management for your MP3 you will be money ahead than if you where to buy an MSP and start doing Bolt-ons.

Yeah I know, I just wanted the Speed since it is newer and my MP3 has 53,000 miles on it, where the Speed has 16,000 so I would feel better putting mods on the Speed since I can keep it longer...

if thats what your worried about, and you want to boost generously, youll have to go forged anyways, just rebuild your MP3's motor...if you owe less on your MP3 go that way. I have an LX and slowly getting towards getting there to boost it, yea i could just sell it and get a msp, but if i get an msp i would still have to mod it to get it were i want it and that would mean more money, so it would be cheaper for me to just do my lx. hope this helps.. peace

MP3's are rare, and only 500 yellow MP3's were made so a yellow one is even more rare. But if you have to get the MSP for the engines low milage, extra HP and the piece of mind then get it swap the engines and suspension and have the best of both worlds. But the yellow MP3 is a very rare ride, besides Orange?!?

ditto, here in richmond,va only seen 1 and that was in the dealership. after it was bought only saw it one more time. then it was completely gone, havnt seen another yellow mp3 here for about 2 yrs now. i seen only 2 other blue mp3 too. BUT I JUST SAW A BLUE MSP TODAY ON BROOK ROAD!!!

Like I said rare... Oh and dont think that a yellow MPS is like a yellow MP3 cause it isnt. The yellow MP3 is a pure yellow (ferrari Yellow) and the MSP is a spicy (cosmic mustard) mica yellow?!? Like I said swap engines or add boost but keep your Unicorn.
I waited 3 months for my MP3 and wish that I could have gotten it in yellow. Mainly cause I knew what was going to happen if I took it in blue.

if you must get the MPS; get the 2003.5 Titanium Grey or the 2002 black mica. Both very rare and very sharp, ive only seen one Black MSP with Rays Bronze 18" rims on it, yellow fog lights and red Sparcos. it took a whole 5 minutes to pick up my jaw. The grey one is sharp too never seen one in person though, just pics. Well at least your not going outside of Mazda to the "Dark side".

In our local group, we had 2 blacks and 4 titaniums. I've only seen 1 spicy at one meet other than Shawn's, so locally Spicy is far less common. Also, much harder to find to buy. That does sound like a very good price, and you have the same wing style as the MP3, which I prefer myself. Enjoy the new car. :)

yeah for some weird reason mazda went with a different yelow for the mp3, msp and mp5. And then this past saturday we were havin a protege meet here in houston and while cruisin down one of the main streets a yellow rx-8 pulled up to one of the yellow msps to give it a go and i was surprised at how different those yellows were. There are also light and dark grey msps. Heres a shot of all the colors (except a yellow mp3, he had left by the time we took this picture).

lol noway dude...look at it carefully. both sides are the same color painted the same way, the middle is regular silver and sides are smoke. even if it was a shadow...what would it be shadowing? look carefully

its deffinitely not a mistake. thats reagans p5 (username: equinox). he lives in my town so i see his p5 quite a bit and its sweet. he raced the yellow rx-8 i was talkin about and spanked him. it was funny.

I think he's saying that he doesn't like the paint job because to him it looks like a 5 O'clock shadow, almost like a mistake. I don't think he's saying that from the picture it just looks that way.

i dunno if any of these proteges can take on the nsx. If its any compensation the nsx owner is a former p5 owner. His username here is pirana and he's still big on the protege scene. I see hondas oh plenty around here. they get so borring after a while. thats why i like owning something unique. if it wasn't for this board then most of us would have never known each other. You seem new here. Just keep pokin around, before you know it you'll know a bunch of other local protege owners and find out where they hang out. for months i would never see any msps/mp3s/moded p5s around. but now that i know where they are, i see them like every other day. I just saw a moddedp5 today that ive never seen before. looked nice but it looked nicer in my rear view mirror! now i just need to find out who he was....(bluemp3) (redp5)

Great pic, that was from the TX Meet. Yea, Pirana used to have the first hiboost p5 on the forums. He's def welcome in our pic. He still sports a DFW Mazda sticker on his NSX. If that's not dedication, I dunno what is.

The titanium is one they made the most of. around here there are about 7 of them that I have met, several others that never come to meets. the silver and yellow msp they only made 500 of, according to a website I read. I have only seen one other silver one and it was some old guy driving it, not that I am young, but he was around 40
