Alright Guys and gals.. Judging by my screen name you know I don't drive a protege, however my girlfriend got one a few months back.. And I have to say.. It doesn't have the pick up of my car, however that thing will out-corner me any day of the week.. Its a fun as hell car to drive :-)

So Anyways.. On to my question(s).. Is there a resignator box on this car? A while back when I had a Saturn one of my friends told me to remove this type of box.. its primary purpose was to make the car sound quiet, or muffle the noise.. Im not sure if resignator box is the correct terminology or not.. But basically it made the sound of an intake when you stepped on the Gas.. She wants to buy an intake for her car, and I was going to try this approach first, if it was even possible with this car?

Lets see.. Next question.. I browsed through and I think I saw something about this but Im not sure if they were talking about the same thing or not.. When she starts her car in the AM (Cold Start). there is a slight rattle/knock coming from the block.. Is this standard? Is there anything to worry about? I know I use FRAM oil filters in my car and this usually alleviates any noises like that because of Fram using that back valve for oil.

Anyhow.. Let me know your thoughts.. Oh by the way.. She drives a 2002 Mazada Protege. I have an 2003 Eclipse GT..

Anyhow.. Anyones thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Kevin

Yes the car has an intake resonator, its the large black box that sits on top and goes down inbetween the radiator. Honestly it won't do much good just to remove that unless you're just looking for a more agressive sound, if you do remove it, you'll have about a 3" hole open to the outside in the bottom of the airbox. As for the "rattle" yeah it's normal...do a search and you'll come up with plenty of info, trust me on this.

an O3 eclipse GT. Oh man, that is one car I would never NV. Didn't anyone tell you, those are chick cars now. J/K. But welcome to the board. Enjoy you stay, and thank you for flying, Mazda Protege.

Mustangs, Eclipses and Tiburon's are official chick cars. I guess Lancer's too! And Beetle's and Talon's....too many!

03GT, Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. (stash)

make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!! (stash)

for your questions....

there are actually TWO resonators....not only is there a resonator built into the intake system...there is also an EXHAUST resonator...it is located in the tube between the second cat and the muffler...you could actually easily have a compitent muffler shop make you a new tube to go between the two.....and it will make the exhaust a little LESS quiet.

the "rattle" yes its normal...but it is NOT oil related. as in noisey lifters or anything of that sort...it has to do with the cold start system in our cars and it immediately stops when coolant temp reaches 149 deg. F.......its nothing to worry about...just crank up the tunes a little bit when you first start up the car and drive...

Hey I love the new Tiburons man. Well the outside anyways, the insides a different story. If I could afford it I'd definately go for a celica, but a GTS with the fast package is like $26,000. You can get an RSX type S for $25,000 nicely equipped. Damn expensive cars anyhow.

They are fast and stuff, but I just like the 4 doors a lot better...

I'll agree with you there. This is my first 4 door but I don't think I"m going back after having this one.
