By the time most sports cars are up to 100 mph, this devil has already been there and come to a stop.
Ultima GTR Blasts Street-Legal Speed Record With Chevy Engine
HINCKLEY, England — Ultima is a purposeful-looking, tubular-framed, Chevrolet V8-engined two-seater, which is now officially the world's fastest super sports car.
Performing at 9.8 seconds in the 0-to-100-mph-to-0 sprint, Ultima broke its own world record recently. Until now no vehicle has managed to hit the 10-second limit in the 0-to-100-mph-to-0 test. The Ultima GTR has also set new records in the individual phases of the sprint by accelerating from zero to 100 mph in 5.8 seconds (zero to 60 mph in 2.7 seconds) and braking from 100 mph to zero in 3.8 seconds.
A standard, fully road-legal Ultima GTR was used in the test-drive, equipped with a 377-c.i.d. Chevy V8. The 685-hp power plant was manufactured by Ultima's original equipment engine supplier, American Speed, which retails the engine as a standard part option.
In an assessment of the performance, Richard Marlow, director of Ultima Sports Ltd. and driver of the Ultima GTR, said, "Our new world record once again proves that the Ultima GTR is truly the fastest supercar currently available in the world today, and by a substantial margin." He also confirmed a 640-hp version of the Ultima GTR is being manufactured to outperform the Ferrari Enzo.
