Hey guys, just picked up a 95 Protege with a 1.5 in it....and on the way home it started to spit and sputter under any kind of accelleration. If you drove it at a constant speed, it was fine...but once you came upon and incline or needed to accellerate, it would carry on like nobodys business....spitting, sputtering, jerking...pretty nasty actually...you would have to downshift just to keep it moving...yes, its a 5 Speed. It idles fine, nice and smooth...no missing and free revs without a problem....only does it while driving.....the guy i bought it from put new wires, plugs and distibutor in it before he sold it....but it didnt seem to help any....just curious as to what you all thought it might be....thanks in advance.....

check for pin holes/cracks in intake piping. check all air line/vac lines. run some injector cleaner through, and call me in 3 days :p

Some 1.5L owner had problms with the compression in the 4th cyliner, due to bad valves and valve springs. The 95 protege with the 1.5l was recalled because the valve springs can crack under higher temps and cause big proablems for the engine, this problem was suposedly fixed in the later models. I would get the engine compression tested, and find out if the previous owner had the valve springs repalced. The guys at www.clubprotege.com might be able to give you more insight on your problem.

the compression was checked before i bought it...just found a receipt from a couple months ago....all was good.....any chance it might be a Mass Airflow Sensor?....thanks
