Got my 2003 ES today. Black, 5spd and no wing, just the way I wanted!
I frikking love this car! :D The more I drive it the more I like it! :D Awesome ass brakes and handling, good fuel economy, decent power and very comfy, couldn't ask for more
What did you guys do to break your 2.0l in? The operator's manual says it doesn't really need any breaking in, to just don't race it or keep it at high revs for the first 1000km... Sounds a little too easy

My dealer said to "drive it like you mean it" I think he's a moron. The only thing I did was avoid long road trips, and just try to keep your gas off the floorboard. CONGRATULATIONS!!
I see you have no wing, welcome to the club!!

Congrats gmagnan!
Don't have that many Protegé owners on this site...I would like to see more of you guys hanging out on this board. (drinks)
Enjoy your new ride and this site!

Congradulations, Well I was always told that long road trips ar actually good for breaking in a car, just keep a good steady drive is actually better helps seats and seals. I believe theie are quite a few protege owners too. I am one.
I felt the same way when I got my car too. I am actually glad I got a ES instead now too. Was going to get MSP when I saw it at the jacob javits center like a year and a half ago, but decided I didnt want to wait and got my ES. Think it was smarter since I would have changed most of the stock stuff anyway.
Enjoy!!!!!

I thought our owner manual said for the break in period, to avoid staying at one speed for too long. I read that somewhere.

I let my GF's brother drive it on saturday night... and he f***ing wrecked it :(
I've only had it for 4 days and it's gone! Not a complete loss, but it'll be weeks before I get it back.
Long story short: We were driving on the highway at 120 (km/h of course, 75mph or so)), he tried to pass without checking his blind spot, a pathfinder comes out of nowhere and he sideswiped him, lost control and spun out hitting the wall on the side of the highway. The front bumper came off, my front end is smashed to hell, 3 of my 4 lights are smashed, driver side doors... :(
I loved this car so much, you wouldn't believe how frustrating it is to save up for a long time, anticipate, wait for delivery ect only to have a little mistake like this ruin everything...
Don't let your friends drive for fun. A car isn't a joint you pass around to get high... Hope no one else here has to find out the hard way

I'm gonna find out!
I have pretty good coverage, and he's gonna be paying my deductible and my my increase in insurance rate, so as long as the dealership I'm taking it to does a good job and I don't start to have a problem car after this I guess things will work out.
Now I'm stuck driving an automatic echo of all things. :D
I cant beleave that  . That is so shitty. You where so happy 3 days ago. I was happy for you. I remembered when I first got my car how happy I was. For something like this to happen. :'(
I feel for you man!!!

That is really too bad, gmagnan. Some insurance policies will replace a vehicle if the car was purchased brand new and less than so many months old, and if the damage warrants a write-off of course. Even if the garage does a good job in repairing it, in the back of your head you always know that it's been damaged. I know it sucks...
