nothing special. same old mid-cycle refreshes. Where's the 200hp 2.3L and 260hp 3.0L needed to be competitive in this segment??

i fully agree here: the 220hp 3.0 simply doesn't do the job, as i constantly have the impression that the msp pulled harder....

I'd say the best stock 6s MTX's pull about a 14.8 in the 1/4 at around 94/95 mph. Dunno what the MSP does, but its about 300 lbs lighter then a 6i MTX, with 10 more bhp, and a nicer torque curve.
MPS 6 by comparison is estimated to pull a low-mid 14 1/4 (14.3-14.5), upcoming 6s MTX turbo kits...well ask in april :).
yes! soon as we get ahold of a speed6 owner and introduce him to SCCA we can see it in action :)

I would agree with that as well. But another thing that should be taken into consideration is that the Mazda 6 competes with cars in it's class that cost more.

They are... The whole 06 refresh thing is just a stalling tactic. Anyone buying an 06 is going to be HELLA PISSED in 07. Or happy...because mazda is going to be transforming the 6 into something many of us won't want.
Thing is the V6 in the altima is used in other cars. After test driving one thats the altimas only strong point. I felt the tiptrinic tranny doing the similar shift shock issues he have and it took me 5 more attempts to park it than it does to park this ford freestar I have for a rental. The current V6 6 won't pass it unfortunately. For those who don't stoplight race their cars this makes the playing field alot more even ;) crossbow do you have any picts or spy shots yet?

It just doesnt look right from the outside no more. The inside is great though. Maybe with a different set of wheels it would look better. I would still buy one if it is actually better than what is on the market right now in terms of performance.

No wonder they had a Mazda 6 sale around my way, and are practically getting rid of the 2005 models....

06 is just an aesthetic refresh. 07 is the mechanical overhaul.

Why 07? the mechanical overhaul should start now....we need better engines faster Mazdas...

Because everything takes time, nothing is done overnight, and they are probably filling their bank accounts up a bit before they spend on more development.

it's about time they offer HID as optional factory equipment on the 6... kinda weird for a while that the lower-end 3 had HID as option but the 6 didn't :p

J dragon,
If you look what is happening to other car's using ford parts in 07...you'll understand more.
zoom-zoom H are 6 aren't imports like the 3 and rx 8 ;) We rolled off the same line as the mustangs.
Yeah 07 model is gonna be something you aren't gonna see comming ;) Maybe I'll have a better chance at finding a slightly new manual since used manuals don't exist down here!

or just post it when 20 questions are up...

I was told not to say specifics...but more power, dimension changes, facade changes, possible drivetrain changes. (When I say more power, I'm not talking a itty bitty bump either)
Look at what ford is doing to the rest of their lineup in 06-07, and you'll get an idea of whats going to happen to the 6.
Basicly just think what the "General" market is aimed twards and draw conclusions from that ;) Our cars are more ford than you may think. The more parts we pull from the car, the more we find "FoMoCo" or "FORD" stamps on things.

220 ponies is enough for me, I think I would kill myself if I had more. And one of the biggest issues in my opinion is that there is a whole bunch of very powerful cars on the market with brakes that are not up to stopping the mass of the car at the speeds people drive those cars at.
EDIT: crossbow, what do you know that we dont know that you cant tell?

Haven't seen the 07's. I just know its dimensions have changed in every direction. Mazda wants to make the 6 the millenium replacement instead of the 626 replacement. So the car is growing in proportion which is either a good or a bad thing depending on how you look at it.

so does that mean the mazdaspeed 6 is only going to be a 1 year run?

Since the MPS6 hasn't even started its first production run yet...who knows. Mazda doesn't even know when its going into production anymore. Its been delayed 6 or 7 times now.
As MP3 said...Feb would probably be a good guess on when they'll finally be available...getting close to intersecting the mazdaspeed 3 release.

man North American Mazda6's are getting screwed. I just received a news release e-mail from Mazda, and the JDM Atenza will have available a SIX-SPEED MANUAL transmission for the 2.3L I4!!!
you think they're gonna bring that over?
ZoomZoomH
06-23-2005, 10:51 AM
oh, and in the same e-mail, it says that Mazda is now taking orders for Mazdaspeed Atenzas in Japan, with a sales launch set for late August 2005.
so that's what, September/October release in North America? Guess it's right on time then :)

If the 07 grows in size... because of Ford... then wouldnt Mazda just be another Mitsubishi with a bunch of Fat ugly cars that cant seem to be sold.

Umm, if the 6 is getting larger, don't compare it to the Millenia (at least from the size point of view). The Millenia was smaller than the 626 during the late 90s, and no larger (almost identical interior dimensions, some smaller - compared to my 95 Protege!)
Now if they want to consider the 6 their flagship sedan - duh, it's already been that for the last 3+ years, worldwide.

Hilarious!
Speaking of emissions - my car turns 2 soon, and I had to get emissions tested. WunderBar low (in the PZEV range :) )
