friggin wierd...

well this morning on my way to work, i had just paid the toll and i see nothing but wide open pavement in front of me so i decide to floor it for a little bit of rush....then all of a sudden i hear a *snap* and my engine bogs down to near stall. my car now has reduced speed to 20mph and will not go past 20mph no matter how hard i push the gas. meanwhile i hear a faint clanking sound coming from the engine bay area...so at this point im thinkin to myself *damn, i just blew my friggin motor*. so of course i drove back home going 20mph the whole way with my hazards on during peak rush hour - needless to say i had people honkin at me from every which way (good thing i have 5%tint to hide behind). so after about 15 mins i make it home and by then that faint clanking sound has escalated into a reeally loud clanking sound - so loud to where my whole car was shaking violently and just as i pulled into my driveway my car dies..*phew! i made it home*. then i called AAA to get my car towed to my mechanic to diagnose this unfortunate mishap..ok now i wait on the verdict meanwhile im thinkin *ok, lets look on the brightside of my engine being blown..now i can get forged internals!! yahh!!* so then i come home from a long day at work to find out that my engine is in tip top shape and the reason for everything was cuz my midpipe literally snapped in half! snapped b/w the two cats. and now everything is fixed and back to normal. so this is a bad story with a good ending for me. ive never heard of this happening to anyone in my life so i thought id share it with u guys.

Weird...you didn't notice a crazy loud exhaust? Also how did this cause you to lose power? When my midpipe cracked (in front of the cat) it was loud as FUCK and was faster

This has happened to several MSPs, mine happened twice. Now I have CS exhaust. Screw Mazda.

Weird...you didn't notice a crazy loud exhaust? Also how did this cause you to lose power? When my midpipe cracked (in front of the cat) it was loud as FUCK and was faster

yea i dont see how i could lose power either..and if i stopped my car it would stall, and to start off in 1st i would need to rev it really high around 5-6k then drop the clutch or else it would stall again. and it wasnt even loud as it shouldve been..i mean compared to when i was running open s-pipe. well nonetheless im just happy i dont need to rebuild the engine. shoot i didnt know exhausts could crack like that. what would make it do that? too much heat?

That happed to me 3 weeks ago!!!! But I used to have a AE86, one time the cat came lose, sounds the same. So when my MSP did the same thing, I know is the exhaust. But when I took a look at, i was like "What'd F**K". I end up getting a custom downpipe.

Wow, that is strange. Maybe a broken piece somehow got in the way to stop up your exhaust?

nope..no cel, actually i had just installed my hardpipes the night before but i knew it wasnt cuz of the hardpipes that it happened. yea i know i dont need to blow the engine to go forged but it gives that much more of a reason to.

peepsalot - yea i was thinkin that too but when the guy showed me the peice, it didnt look like something hit it, it looked like....i dunno, just looked wierd
