Anyone notice when they put their stock Potenza's back on after having the winter tires on that those things are like driving on rocks? Super road noise compared to the Dunlop Winter Sports.

Handling is much better though, just thought I see if anyone else noticed.

Yes. But that's given since winter tires are much softer. Plus I run a 60 series.

I went from Protenza to Proxoy 4's I'm kind annoyed at the lack of handling they have. But yes my proxoy 4's are much more quiter

Yeah. Remember going from summer tires to winter? That sucks, like driving on marshmallows.

My stock tires shoot gravel up into the wheel well and it is so friggin loud. I currently have my winter tires still on the front and the regular ones on the rear. The difference is amazing. Is there something I could line the wheel well with to silence the noise????

17 inch tires with a 45 profile will do that when compared to a 15 inch tire with a 60 or 65 profile.

a tire with a smaller sidewall has to be stiffer then one with a thicker sidewall because theres not as much room for the tire to move before it comes in contact with the rim. think about the forces applied to the sidewall when a 3000 pound car with 50 mph hits a pot hole. it has to be hard enough to not hit the wheel and damage it. also, how often do you see low pro tires on buicks and grand parent cars? low profile tires are almost exclusively used on performance tires because they offer better handling and the tire companies are going to make them for that.

Yeah....I know all that, but it just amazes me how much of a difference it is.

Ahh...that's why I love living in the south...no snow tires, no road salt.

You're very (ahem) brave, being in St. Paul and putting your summer tires on so early in the year... I wait until 1st week April and STILL am caught out occasionally... have been known to change back to winter tires from summer just before my morning commute!

Also, the summer tires' rubber compound gets quite stiff when cold, increasing the "rocks" sensation even in the dry. Wait 'til it gets consistently warmer...

Ah..I figured if I put them on it won't snow anymore. So hopefully I can trick the weather gods. I have a dyno this weekend, and didn't want to do it in steelies..that's why I switched so soon.

If it does snow, it will be minimal anyway.
