I'm kinda pissed off right now. Well here's the story. I first bring in my car to fix the clunk with new bushings, i also had a cel on(i first thought it was from the gas cap, since i just bought the car about a week ago), and i wanted them to flash the ecu. Well today is the second day they've had it there and they just notified me today that my cat has gone bad and that is why my cel came on. Well they want to charge us $1500, and i said f that, that should be covered under warranty. When we told him that, he said he's gonna look more into it and call us back. That's just ridiculous though, $1,500.

p.s.: by the way, i brought it to Gunther Mazda for those of you that live in South FL.

It's more likely the O2 sensor is bad...not the cat....

probably the O2, but either way, that is emissions equipment and should be covered under warranty.......If they are trying to make you pay I would raise hell with Mazda NA, eventhough that won't do any good......but also with the folks at EPA, they'd probably be interested to know about that.

and if it is truly bad and they don't want to pay to fix it, then take the car to a muffler shop and get a hi-po one for about $300-$500 installed depending on where you take it.

Yea, they told me it's both the cat and o2's. Well i will definitely not pay for any of that. I dont know who would be lured into paying for that anyways. I would probably just buy some aftermarket exhaust if it's not covered under warranty.

Yes, check your EMISSIONS WARRANTY in your user manual. It is in fact illegal to mod change your emissions systems from anything but factory (cats, 02 sensor removal or modification) within the first 50k. What is your mileage? If you're under 50, ALL car manufacturers who sell in the US have it under warranty.

Cats for our cars are $1500. I had it done under warrenty, but the estimated price of them were $1496.

But yes your cats are covered for 80k

O2 sensors are not warrantied under the emissions warranty or any other warranty, they're like a clutch or brake pads.

Also, how you can make the call whether it's just an O2 sensor or the cat by just seeing 1 post on a forum that gives you no info whatsoever is beyond me. I am not one to trust dealerships but at least they ARE LOOKING at the car.

you will not be "lured" into fixing your car even though the emissions warranty clearly states that O2 sensors are not covered? I hope you never get "lured" into one of those "worn out clutch" scams the dealers run....

I'm just going by probability. Much higher probability of an O2 sensor going bad than a cat convertor

Right, but if he's getting a P0421 or P0420 CEL, then that IS an almost sure indicator of cat failure, and not knowing what codes his car threw, this is guesswork at best. Also for those saying to raise hell with Mazda, may I suggest you read over the warranty booklet first before you go waste your time and energy.

Thats not the Biggest BS. The biggest BS is when my dealer told me a CAI caused my piston to crack due to the extra increase in air!

You guys are amazing, I mean really, diagnoising a car you've never seen, and without seeing any information, better than a Tech. at a dealership. I wish I could do it, it would make my life so much easier... Maybe next time I have a car thats giving me a hard time I'll ask you guys.

Catalytic converters will be warrantied under most situations. And yes they are wickedly expensive.

Man some peaple need to read the wty manual.

Cats 8 years or 80k
O2 sensors are covered under the Basic wty 4 years 50k.

You probably are working with a very green service advisor. So next time your on the shitter read the manual and you won't get ripped off.

The cats are def covered, trust me, about 2 weeks ago, my second cat ate shit, and actually blew a hole through the side. 10 Minutes later, I was at the dealer waiting for enterprise to pick me up for the WARRANTY work. Good luck though, sounds like your dealers a real pain.

Okay we got everything straightened out. The thing is that the guy(mike) that originally started working on my car called in sick yesterday, so we got some asshole that told us that it wasnt covered. But we talked to him today and got everything straightened out and it is covered.

man, i thought we were the only ones with dealership problems...we brought ours in to have our bushings replaced, and when we got it back the alarm was fucked up and they tried to tell us that it wasn't a factory alarm. The guy called someone from another building over and that guy told him it was the factory alarm

Yea, he's been very helpful. The other guys just seem like they don't know what they're talking about or they don't give a F**** for customers.

I want to get an aftermarket exhaust, but im gonna wait till warranty ends. Only have 24k miles on it now.

I just had a Thermal exhaust put on at the Mazda dealership I work at, and before I even ordered it I ask the shop supe if that would effect my warranty and he said "no, it shouldnt" a week later it went on... there at the Mazda dealer. (guitar) (lick) (msporange
