Can anyone give their $.02 on engine management options out there for the MSP. My local tuner (Pure Tuning (http://www.pure-tuning.com/) , Toledo OH) wants to hear what people have experienced with engine management options, and what options are even out there. Of course they know about the AEM EMS, Haltec, etc.....but curious how they are working.

BTW this shop is amazing. They have a huge place, and you can eat off their floors (i.e. very clean). They have a dyno in house, flowbench, multiple lifts, etc etc. Whenever my car is on the lift, they take time to polish my pipes, clean sway/stabilizer bars, everything. Treat my car as if it were theirs. Very smart as well.

They told me they go MAP and get rid of the MAF in most cases, and see the best results. I would really appreciate some feedback here. Any vendors that reply will get their names forwarded to Pure Tuning.

i'm using DSMConvert's Airflow Logisitic, which is basically Split Second's PSC1 (Programable Signal Calibrator) mapped for the mazdaspeed protege.

It's not an engine management, but its fuel management.

so far i think its great, and i'm using it straight out of the box. after some dyno tuning it should be even better.

I am conveying things wrong I guarantee, he was talking so fast I did not quite understand what he was telling me. I am thinking they mentioned going standalone, and removing the MAF. I think I said that whole MAP thing wrong. Please do not joke, I wish this to be a helpful thread....not a bashing thread on a very good company.

Thank you. So the stock ECU is still there, but maximized/modified by this AFC? Is the MSP ECU still going to get in my way? Is there a need to go standalone? Thanks for the info. I want to know more for next time I talk with them. I will let them know about this AFC, though I hear it is hard to get right now....

if they can come up with an affordable piggyback to control fuel AND timing, that would be the best :). as far as i know, no one has been able to control timing without going full standalone.

yes the stock ecu is still there. the afc just intercepts the mazda's maf signals and uses its own internal map sensor to adjust the air/fuel. this is not by any means a standalone, its more of an air/fuel piggyback.

if you want more control, split second has a FTC (Fuel & Timing Controller) for like $500. Unfortuneately, not one for our cars, but maybe the guys from your shop can rig something up to make it compatible.

I think I am looking into the MPI tuner. My contact at Pure Tuning is going to talk to Nick soon. Standalone is a lot of money, and I will never utilize all the features.....I just want a bit of tuneability. Thanks for the input all.

BTW I will look into the split second's FTC and ask the shop how hard it would be to make work.
