wow, im supposed to pick up my mazdaspeed protege 2003.5 silver tomorrow, and now i am thinking of backing out...i did a lot more research on the forum and am thinking its not worth it...i wanted a fast street car in the mid to low 12's...but reading that the lsd is weak..have to do internals...and havent really found any kind of computer/ecu management other than standalone, im confused...maby someone can convince me to change my mind? thanks (uhm)

as mentioned numerous other times, if you want a quick car, this isn't it. also, if you need reasons to buy this car, again, this isn't the car for you. all too often on here people buy MSPs and the post with a certain remorseful feeling because their goals aren't easily achievable. I'd say go with another platform to start with, as 12seconds isnt easy without quite a bit of work.

a mid to low 12's on an msp would require a hefty chunk of money to safely accomplish.

if pure speed is really what you're after as opposed to style and uniqueness, then i say take your money, buy a better, more mod-able platform, and go to town. i'm sure you can reach your goal having spent less than with the mazdaspeed + mods.

it's all in what you're after ...

id rather not convice you to change your mind and have you happier with whatever else you get. 12s is going to be a bitch on this car.

props to doing research.

I think it's Focus (http://www.msprotege.com/forum/member.php?u=6400) with like 12.9 or something, sick car.
If I were you, I would look at the srt-4 fot that kind of power.

just a little bit of persuasion towards the MSP. The LSD can be welded to made stronger, which usually makes it pretty good, or also there is the Quaife LSD that is supposedly amazing. There is some really cool stuff for this car, and it is pretty nice. It's just not the greatest for instant bolt on power. But all together it's a pretty nice package, but if your goal is a 12sec street car, I suggest looking elsewhere. Does it matter what platform?(FWD, RWD, AWD). You should check into the Miata a bit. They have pretty strong engines, that can take some good power without needing to be opened up. Also, RX-7, but insurance on those could be a little steep. It may sound kinda sick, but look into the SRT-4 so long as it has the LSD in it. There are many cars out that that can be made 12sec, but the thing is, you will lose a fair bit of realiability in any car made to go that fast.
