You guys think that if you go past the redline, say to 7500 to often you will do much damage???

I accidently went past the redline once but I don't think it was 7500. There is a limiter @ a certain RPM. I am pretty sure it's before 7500.

Rev limiter is at 6750rpms according to people that have had digital readouts of RPM (the tach is inaccurate that high).

But of course you can still overrev the engine if you downshift into too low of a gear.

And there isn't much point hitting the rev limiter when accelerating...power drops off after 6K on this motor.

I'm glad it wasn't 7500 then, it sure looked up there but I only glanced for a quick second before I threw her into a higher gear. It just had me a little paranoid and thought I would ask if I did any damage as I generally drive her pretty conservatively.

By the way, thanks for the tip Jersey, knowing the power drop off point is a good thing to know.then again, you may not want to shift right when the power hits its peak, because you'll be at a lower rpm in the next gear

The msp doesn't have a rotary. did you mean you were used to a rotary?

maybe he meant he wasn't used to drag racing "against" a rotary?

Maybe he's switched to a rotary powered car and is having trouble hearing when it's about to top out. Happens to me when I drive my RX7 because the rotary is so damn smooth, it's kinda tough to tell(by ear) what revs you're at. :)

When I went to Laguna Seca, I had an instructor (Keith from Flyin' Miata) take me for a drive around the track in my P5 for a few laps. He consistently hit 7k r's, so when i got back behind the wheel I began to do the same...all day long.

A year later, my car's running as good as ever. :) I wouldn't take it up to 7k+ all the time, but once in a while, I don't think it's too much of a biggie.

Shit everyone hits redline all day long at the autox track. It will not do any damage cuz it just shuts off the fuel. They build this feature into the car.

Then again, the fact that you'd be riding the redline would only occur once or twice a month or so.

ya your right, but its around 3 times per run and 4race runs and a few fun runs on that day. I’m not worried about it.
