i was wondering if the stock MSP (racing beat) rear sway bar will be a direct swap for my car or not? do i need to replace some tabs or something? i think i remember reading something about this at one point.

just go to awrracing.com and order the 20mm bushing from them and reuse your old bracket. that's all you need, but i dont know if this goes for a dx or lx because i have an es

yea i have a dx...i need their end links...thinkin about just going with their kit with the 21.5 mm bar

I'm not sure the swaybar endlink tabs on the struts are strong enough on the dx/lx for bigger swaybars. you'd have to put aftermarket struts on for stronger tabs.

We will be placing an order for AWR parts soon here. If you're interested please PM me. We have some package deals going on.

DX/LX/ES are mechanically the same cars aside from brakes.. Just to let you know... And I've heard the tabs on the struts are a bit weak, but there is nothing you can do about it unless you get new struts.

You can reinforce the tabs to accept the sways...however from a performance standpoint the struts will do more for you and cost about the same

how can you reinforce the tabs without welding onto the gas shock?

Not on the 3rd gen's, the ES has a diff. suspension... from the DX / LX, but the tabs still are a problem....

i think the difference is the stabilizer bar sizes on the es is a little bigger, and the es struts are different from the lx and dx. im not sure about the strut thing, but i think the es struts have small tabs and the dx and lx doesn't.

i think it might be better to get new struts and then get the bar. i think you just need the bushings and endlinks to install the bar. i know awr can supply the bushings and endlinks for you, or you can order the mazdaspeed endlinks from the dealer. im not sure about pricing though.

hmm... havent heard of that before... I still think the only difference in struts and sway bars was from the regular sedan to the MP3/MSP... I dont know though... I do know that my old struts had tabs just like the ES though...

While on the subject of rear sway bars, does anyone know if the Progress 22 mm rear sway bar for the 99-00 Protege sedan is any good? How does it compare to AWR? I know its listed on Corksport's website and its a heck of a lot cheaper, but I don't want it to be cheap for the reason that its crap. Know what I mean? Would it make sense to just save up a little more and get the AWR or cheap out and get the Progress?

FYI: At least since 2002 anyway, the DX/LX are the same, sway bars, struts, and springs. The ES has a slightly bigger front sway bar (+ 1 or 2mm if I remember right?), and a microscopically larger rear sway bar (+ .1mm), and slightly firmer strut valving, and slightly firmer rear springs that are about 1/4" shorter, and front springs are the same for DX/LX/ES/P5 given the same transmision choice. The P5 has, compared to the ES, even firmer rear springs-yet another 1/4" shorter than the ES, the same sway bars, and different struts than the sedans. All of the OEM struts, except the MP3/MSP of course, have tabs that are too weak in the long term to handle a larger sway bar. Hope this helps. :)

only difference i was aware of was between the BJ-i and the BJ-ii with the earlier models sway bars going under the lateral links, and the later models going over the lateral links... this of course means two different sway bar endlinks...
and its also the easiest way to tell the models from the back too :p easiest way to pick a dumped pro is by looking at the links as you will see they point out and not down :p

and yes the AWR goes under the lateral links

I imagine that if it fits, that it is probably fine. 22mm is pretty big, but not much bigger than 21.5, right?

So in summary... I don't know. But here's a bump...

oh im very sure it fits....as long as they give you some new bushing thingys....and also idk how strong the tabs on the strut body would have to be......

steve_protege

I think bushings come with the sway bar as well. It doesn't say it in the description, but I would imagine that they would include them with the bar, right? Why would Corksport (thats who I might buy the bar from) just send me the bar and not the bushings that works in conjunction with it. Know what I mean?

I think I have the strut tabs under control because Im going to install new gas shocks/struts when I put the sway bar, front strut bar, etc on.

Is the Progess bar adjustable? If not, that might be the reason the AWR is more expensive. I've bought a lot of aftermarket stuff for my autocross cars over the years, and the AWR stuff is REALLY nice. I especially like how their rear bar is infinatly adjustbable instead of just having 2 holes to choose from. You can really tune the balance of your car with the AWR bar.

Im putting the KYB GR-2 gas shocks/struts on. Is that going to be alright?

I didn't see anything in the description about it being adjustable, so it might not be. So from what I have gathered, even though the Progressive bar is a bit cheaper, the AWR is the better deal right? Since it comes fully adjustable, with bushings and its from a highly reputable Protege company??

*Edit* Here is the link for the bar. Let me know whatcha all think bout it.
